RUN A “CHAMPIONSHIP” ORGANIZATION
Great leadership is undeniable no matter what level or type of organization from Steve Jobs, to Martin Luther King, to Abraham Lincoln to LeBron James. Pursuing excellence, leading with your whole heart, trusting your intuition, being authentic and resilient are five distinguishable traits for leaders to win in today’s economic climate.
Let’s be clear: I love the game of basketball. I am not a Miami Heat fan, nor am I necessarily a fan of LeBron James, nor do I support how the “Decision” was announced. I am, however, a fan of pursuing excellence. I study great leaders, their authentic leadership styles and their ability to overcome failure to win in the end.
LeBron James displayed his whole heart when after making the “decision” to go to the Miami Heat to win multiple championships, he fell short in his first season, reaching the 2011 NBA Finals but eventually losing. After that season, he took the criticism, looked in the mirror, humbled himself and took responsibility for his mistakes. In the 2013 NBA Finals, he played horribly in Game 5 and his team lost. Once again he adjusted his game, elevated his basketball IQ, decided to make an unorthodox decision to shoot mid-range jumpers (instead of driving in the lane) and to defend Tony Parker (one of the best point guards in the league) to win Game 6 & 7 and back-to-back NBA Championships. James’ willingness to take responsibility on both ends of the floor, to combine work ethic and IQ to turn his team into champions is an example peers and employees will follow. As a leader in today’s business world, people will follow leaders who lead with their whole heart.
It’s important to see James display resiliency during this play-off run. He shot the ball poorly in Game 5 and in Game 7 he rose to the occasion finishing with 37 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Learning to be a winner has as much to do with one’s ability to take a punch and to get up quickly after being knocked down as it does with having a burning desire to win. How a leader handles failure especially today is a necessary component to teaching employees how to win despite setbacks and disappointments.
Trusting your intuition and leading with authenticity requires turning weaknesses into strengths. It also requires doing whatever it takes to sustain greatness. James moved from not too long ago an inability to close out games to become a consistent “Peak Performer”. It takes more than remarkable skill to be a great winner | leader, it takes a genuine desire for one’s team to win and sustain greatness.
Implicit in James’ collaborative leadership style is his willingness to let others shine and to add value to their performances, life and work. That is the most desirable trait of a leader – the willingness to not go it alone, to let another voice be heard.

Benefits of Yoga
By Justine Thorner Can yoga change your life? If you ask most practicing yogis they will respond with a definitive “Yes.” And perhaps it is because that much of this ancient art form lies in connecting with the breath. This simple concept, when practiced at a deep level, can clear the mind of…

“GO BEYOND WINNING IN THE 21st CENTURY” (People, not just profits!)
One question
remains: How can we have more? More profits, more customers yet have more
time for what matters most. It is simple;
in today’s business model to just focus on the bottom line will not necessarily
increase profits and productivity.
To have a successful
business and to remain relevant in the 21st century we must not only
focus on our bottom line but also our top line… the top line is people – our
family, our friends, employees, and customers.
It seems counter intuitive to grow our bottom line by focusing on our
top line but studies show employees who are happy and feel appreciated are more
productive.
We all have worked for
companies that have an engaging mission statement hanging on the wall only to
discover a culture of me first (make more money for the company so you can pay
me as little as possible mentality).
The companies that
innovate, create and collaborate will win in the 21st century and
beyond. Companies that practice negative
campaigning, competing unfairly and who do not make decisions based on core
values will not make relevant accomplishments in the future. Do you cringe as a business owner of the idea
of working more, being less effective and profits declining? Try these simple tasks to increase
productivity, profits and to go beyond winning in the 21st century.
Coach Trudi’s Simple Tasks to go
Beyond Winning in Business:
1.
Honor
your core values. Focus on what is most important. For example, as Starbucks grew to a worldwide
company their mission was simple - to brew a good cup of coffee, one cup at a
time and treat employees well.
2.
Stop
Choking: Studies show that trying to avoid losing will
actually cause more pressure and will increase your chances of making mistakes.
3.
Increase
productivity: Increase your productivity and those of your
employees by remembering there are consequences for everything – good and
bad. Make decisions which honor your
core values and that focus on rewards not regrets.
4.
Focused
attention: Multitasking is overrated! Chronic multitasking reduces creativity. You have both sides of your brain functioning
simultaneously. Taking on too many tasks
at once increases your chances of errors.
5.
Invest
in you: Eat whole foods. Take a liquid supplement (I recommend VEMMA, organic, anti inflammatory and
98% absorbent), drink 2 ½ quarts of water, walk at least 30 minutes a day, do
resistance training twice a week and meditate 10 minutes a day. Research shows aerobic exercise is good for
the brain, body and business! Harvard
Medical School published a study, which shows lower out of pocket health cost
and less time missing work for those who did aerobic exercise on a regular
basis.
6.
Manage
Your Energy: You will accomplish more when you practice
rest and recovery. It is counter
productive to always be in a “highly competitive, type A personality mode”, to
always be at odds with someone, to always have someone else lose so you can win
or to make others wrong so you can be right.
For example: A WNBA team full of players who only want
to shoot and not play defense or who believe their way is the only way will not
buy into a team concept. Another
example is if you have a WNBA team
full of point guards and no posts players this will result in conflict. The same is true in business. If you have all
leaders and no followers or anyone who will focus on the greater good, it will be difficult to perform at a
consistent high level. You have to have
a mixture of personalities, talents and ideas to be most productive.
Robert T. Kiyosaki in his
book, THE BUSINESS of the 21st CENTURY says “ you can become
rich by being cheap and greedy. You can become
rich by being abundant and generous. The
method you choose will be the method that most closely matches the core values inside of you”.
To go beyond winning in
the 21st century is to take a moment to have a one-on-one
conversation with people, to invest in your own personal wellness (mind, body
and spirit) and to seek your own fulfillment while propelling others to
reach their greatest accomplishments.

"13 in 13"
For 13 days transform your life in 13 minutes:

1. For 13 days drink 1 gallon of water per day!
2. For 13 days eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day.
3. Mediate / pray for 13 minutes for 13 days
4. Give 13 compliments – at least one per day for 13 days
5. Do 13 acts of kindness
6. Do 13 more acts of kindness = 26 Acts!
7. For 13 days stretch in the morning for 13 minutes!
8. Do cardio – walk, run, bike, dance, or do the elliptical machine for 13 minutes for 13 days.
9. For 13 days, before bed, hold the plank position for 13 seconds. (Plank position is to lie horizontal on the floor, tighten abs and hold this position on your elbows)
10. For 13 days while watching TV during commercials do 13 squats (stand then squat; let your butt touch the couch then repeat).
11. For 13 days, while driving to or from work hold your lower abs then release, repeat for 13 repetitions
12. Distance yourself from social media for 13 minutes a day for 13 days!!!
13. For 13 days, smile at one stranger per day!
We often think transformation or meaningful change occurs in giant leaps, big decisions or monumental sacrifices. Actually greatness happens in the little every day occurrences that are significant, intentional and powerful.
Transformation happens when we come from a place of fullness instead of lack; when we move with ease along our path and make choices based on our desires rather than our disappointments. And when we align our inner purpose with our outward doing.
We feel the wind of the Universe blow in our direction, we remain present to what is and minutes turn into days and days into years. Before we know it life is magical again.
-Be lean and keen in 2013!
All the best,
Coach Trudi
